From Turley's,
to The Old Canal.

Turley's Bar of Mountmellick — established 1952 — has been part of the rhythm of Harbour Street for generations. Now it's entering a new chapter as The Old Canal Gastro Pub.

The new name pays tribute to the Grand Canal, which once flowed as far as Mountmellick, running directly behind the building. Turley's already had a 'Canal End' on its east side — a quiet nod to the waterway that shaped this town. The Old Canal carries that history forward.

A brand-new, state-of-the-art kitchen is currently under construction. When it opens, it will serve a gastro pub menu featuring modern Irish dishes alongside elevated pub favourites — comfort and quality at the forefront.

At the helm are new proprietors Joanne Deegan and award-winning chef Barry Liscombe. Together they bring passion, experience, and a shared vision: a welcoming room that blends the warmth of a traditional Irish pub with the atmosphere of a modern gastro venue.
